The things a vegan will do in the name of art. [Dec. 7th, 2009|09:06 pm]
hey ppl-

Just did a photoshoot that involved me having heavy whipping cream poured over my head. From this I learned several things...

1. Whipping cream, when applied directly to the eyes, doesn't hurt. However it does interfere slightly with your ability to see.
2. Whipping cream tastes awful. This should be an obvious, but I always felt that I was the sort of vegan (confession time) who was really only good at staying vegan because of my stubborness. I figure if I ever tasted dairy I'd say yum, and be tempted. This my friends, is not the case. You know how they say you lose your taste for milk if you don't use it? They aren't kidding. Sour, thick, disgusting.
3. Whipping cream curdles when warm. And therefore it curdles when it's on your face, in your hair or filling your eyes.
4. Whipping cream can not be inhaled with the same effect as air.
5. Whipping cream, when kept in the refridgerator, is very very cold.

I have now showered, washed everything that came in contact with said dairy product, spit about 800 times in hoped of losing the taste, and drank some hot english breakfast tea. I'm feeling refreshed.

The shoot went pretty well, I am confident the photos will look great and the photographer is amazing and the only one he showed me was beautiful.

I have decided photographers are much like drummers. They don't want to be in the spotlight, they want to be in the back. They don't want to talk a lot, and they are generally shy. The problem with this, is at heart, my passion is photographer. Models however, are like lead singers. They are outgoing, talk a lot, love to be in the spotlight. I act like a photographer, and the photographer acts like a photographer, and we have very little conversation and a heaping dose of awkward. But meh, I guess it's life.

I am feeling much more confident in my ability to pose and my confidence with my body, so that's a plus. I really want to build a home studio on of these days... or a real one... when I'm rich (aka when I no longer need state funded programs to keep me alive).

well, bye for now-:-D

16?? 16 degrees!? UGH.

I don't mind having a winter, but 16 degrees at night in Eugene is a bit cold. I don't do well with the cold, it makes me very grumpy. I realize there are people dealing with negative temperatures right now, and I sympathize, I really do. However, I am still quite unhappy with 16.

On another note. Went to Hilary's birthday party Friday, which was fun times. Pizza, cake, Tommy.. the usual :p Spent most of the weekend huddling under quilts and playing video games.

I've decided my parents don't make very good friends. Or maybe there just aren't many very good people. I'm not sure.

Photoshoot tomorrow, me as the model, switching the roles a bit here. See how it goes, I'm looking forward to it.

well, bye for now-:-D

hey ppl-

Listened to some middle school kids talking on the bus today about high schools. The first boy said, very seriously "South has a better college education program" to which his friend replied, equally seriously "Yeah, but everyone at South smokes pot". What's sad is, they were both right. Made me laugh though.

Got off the bus about 7 blocks before I was supposed to, and ended up walking up W11th towards Walmart.. where there's no sidewalks and you feel like everyone who drives by might try to kidnap you. Ok, so maybe that part is just me, lol. Got to Walmart and got pretty much everything I needed there, I try to shop there as rarely as possible. Except when it's midnight and I'm bored out of my mind, then I'm all for it.

It's cold, btw. Really f-ing cold. My hands are red INDOORS. Silly yurt. One of our heaters is down to 2 elements out of 6, and I might get hypothermia before payday. Apparently it got down to 21 outside last night... O.o

Busy week. But busy with fun.

well, bye for now-:-D

Wow. So today sucked.

I felt like crap last night. Work was okay. Had some fun actually going out with my mom of all things.

But then. My shoot tomorrow was canceled. My shoot sunday will most likely be postponed. My awesome modeling opportunity on Monday was canceled because "a lot of people showed up today adn brought friends". Gee, thanks.

I was super excited about that modeling gig. Damn it.

But in all honesty, the adventure with my mom was fun, and I got free dinner, so the night wasn't a total waste.

well, bye for now-:-D

Omg I want to curl up in a ball and seal myself in some sort of spider proof suit. This is ridiculous. The spiders, which btw are not your average house spiders, seem to live in the dome of my yurt. And it is super windy right now. So they are falling... everywhere. I've found two in ten minutes. UGH.

"Chickenstrips, Motherfucker!" [Nov. 15th, 2009|11:55 am]
hey ppl-

Went out last night for the first time since I moved away from downtown. Enjoyed it quite a bit. Hilary, who in total was up about 20 hours yesterday after getting up at 5am for a 4 hour test that took 6 hour, and me went to Goodwill in the afternoon and bough Bibleopoly for two dollars. After enjoying our bible trivia at which we failed miserably, our offerings, and our church building, me Hilary and Kristin headed to McMinemans for some dinner.

Unfortunately the one on high street was out of both soup and Boca Burgers. And all three of use were vegetarian/vegan. So we piled in the car, met up with Sarah, and headed to the bigger one. After confirming that they did indeed still have soup and Boca Burgers, we enjoyed a lovely meal and helped a man find his lost glove.

Kristin wasn't feeling well so we dropped her off at home and headed to the bars. Jamesons was quite nice until the game let out, then it had the usual air of trendy mass confusion that always kind of frightened me, lol. We stayed there awhile so we could meet up with Ryan and Patrick, then we headed over to Horsehead for some snackage. Crowded around a two person table, Hilary fell sleep at least once, and then headed to Hilary's car in the freezing cold that seems to have taken Eugene hostage.

Ryan nearly got run over and punched Hilarys car, all in fun of course. We dropped Sarah off at her car and then I came home.

Nothing all that exciting I suppose, just miss the goofiness of my friends slightly tipsy and sleep deprived, and the vibe of a quiet bar, or a busy one with lots of friends.

well, bye for now-:-D

hey ppl-

I'm definitely not dressing up for Halloween this year, unless something amazing pops into my head between now and 7:00. However, I did dress up for Hilary's Halloween party last weekend as a flapper, so that's something.

Spent a couple hours last night putting my mom's hair in ringlets, which she teased this morning into a very disco-tastic fro for the football game. I was proud, I've definitely rubbed off on her.

So I discovered today that if you go to Walmart.com and type in funeral, you get exactly that. They sell cofins and urns. Why? Because Walmart just can't restrain themselves. Money, must find new ways to get money. But somehow I think I got more amusement out of it than disgust, which is rare for me when it comes to Walmart. I shop there, I admit it, but only on occasion. That's part of what I hate about them really, they are the cheapest, they do have the most crap, and they are open when no one else is. They also paid me a lot more than my current job. How depressing. I won't be working there again though, on the up side, because I've been blacklisted for quitting without notice.

Does anyone find it odd that Halloween is quickly becoming the sluttiest holiday? I didn't see one costume at any of the party stores that any grandmother would approve of.

I think that's about all the excitement I have to offer this fine Halloween Day. Don't take candy from strangers kid - oh wait - scratch that. Ummm. Don't wear dark clothing at night kids. Hmm, no, scratch that too.... Don't eat dessert before dinner? Don't use sharp objects? Don't stay up too late?

well, bye for now-:-D

Guess who is on an amazing new and shiney green laptop? That's right. I am. :D :D

Walked to Zech's store with Zech this morning, got some breakfast, sat outside, watched the Fed Ex truck pull up, park, watched the guy get out with my laptop in hand and walk towards the store. It was glorious.

But then of course I had to go to work. And not open my beautiful laptop until now. Hours later. How sad.

But it was worth it! Tis all pretty and green, yayness.

TEN TRUTHS (meme stolen from Jackee)

1. I have been a vegan since 11th grade, and when I really want to know how something non-vegan tastes I smell it, and it makes me feel better.

2. I have not kept my fingernails trimmed short since the 5th grade, not once.

3. I don't actually have a high school degree, but I walked in the graduation and my name is on the t-shirts that were handed out to Seniors.

4. I don't stress about "life" goals, in the form of careers or ultimate living situation. I just kind of go at it blindly, with some vague goal of photography/art/teaching in mind. And I'm okay with that.

5. I once got four stitches from a collision with a plastic soda bottle, on my birthday.

6. I did not cut my hair until I was almost 20 years old. Not even a trim.

7. I own so many shirts I don't know what to do with them, but I when I go through them to throw some out I find that I actually like all of them. I once wore a different shirt everyday and I got through 2.5 months before I ran out.

8. I have dual citizenship, although I have never taken advantage of it. My father was born in France.

9. I have an obsession with the color green. Bordering on unhealthy :D

10. I have a tendency to read and enjoy very depressing or bizarre books. Survival books, holocaust books, mental disorder books, etc etc.

hey ppl-

It's been quite the week.

On Monday we were informed that some construction workers were going to be in our home on Tuesday to take out a wall in our bathroom and replace and electrical box. Why, you may ask, were they doing this when we were moving in only two weeks? Because our landlord somehow thought that us giving our notice on August 18th, and telling him we would be out mid-September, meant we would be out by the 1st. When he realized his mistake, he went ahead anyway.

On Tuesday we wake up at 8:30 in the morning to workers in our house. The electrical people ended up not only taking down the wall in our bathroom, but cutting four holes in our ceiling, one of which allowed us to see into the stairwell above our apartment. Not to mention the row of holes through our cabinet leading to the outdoors. And of course, you can't forget the drill bit that "should be coming out about here, by the stove" and really came out about there, above the couch, where I was sitting, about to stand up, covering me in dust and nearly drilling me through the head. It was two feet long. Or the one they drilled at a ridiculous angle at the bottom of our stairs and left STICKING OUT OF THE CEILING when they took their lunch break. And that's not to mention the fact that the breaker on our fridge was off for hours, because they never informed us that is was off. I found out when I went to make dinner and the light didn't turn on when I opened the door. Oh, and the fact that they left our door wide open when they were done, and we weren't home.

On Wednesday we set an alarm for 8:30, heard them poking around in those holes that led outside. We told them we didn't want them to continue until we talked to our landlord. Construction worker #3 was very nice and talked us through everything they were doing. Our landlord called us and we complained about all of the above, he said he was sorry and he liked us and he'd let us have September through the 18th for free. Good deal. They continued their work, finally patched up the holes. Construction worker #1, an old guy with suspenders to hold up his tool belt and Construction worker #2, a young guy who doesn't seem 100% there, were demoted from our apartment to upstairs, #3 was the only one who entered our apartment for most of the day. Construction worker #2 did the scratch your eye with your middle finger move to Zech, and oozed hate all day. lol.

Thursday the inspector came in and they did very little work.

Today I did a photo shoot, princess dress out in hobo forest, went well. Got a couple calls from Zech, called him back, he informed me he had woken up in a pool of his own blood and was waiting for the paramedics. My dad gave me a ride over to our house and he was there still being treated. When I was waiting for my dad to give me a ride to the hospital to meet Zech when he got there, as they apparently do not let people ride along in the ambulance anymore, Construction worker #2 leans out the winder of Robert's former apartment and our conversation goes something like this:
#2: *obviously listened to the paramedics and such* Heeey, is it alright if we do some work in your apartment today...?
Me: Well, there's blood on the floor right now.. so uuh...
#2: So... uuh... probably not..?
Me: Well I haven't had a chance to clean it up *my dad drives up and I edge towards the car* sooo.... yeah...
#2: Yeah... oookay. Well umm, I'll have to come in this weekend then.
Me: That's fine.
#2: Or Monday.
Me: Ok *right next to the car*
#2: I've got another project on Monday though, so we might not get in there until Tuesday, is that okay?
Me: Yeah. That's fine. Thanks. *gets in car*
Seriously dude, what kind of response is that to I'm sorry there is blood on the floor. You just watched Zech get taken away in an ambulance, you moron.

ANYWHO.

Zech had apparently passed out, they didn't seem worried about why, a combination of not eating, disturbing videos and standing up too fast it seems. He then woke up to find that he had cut the back of his head open on our stairway, and gotten a hairline fracture in his collarbone. He got 11 staples in his head and a silly looking brace for his fracture :p He is in some pain but he is doing much better. Scared the crap out of me.

And that has been my week so far. Probably the biggest entry in a year, lol.

well, bye for now-:-D

Did a survey at work today that asked people to "rate the following people or groups from 1-100 if 1 is very unfavorable and 100 is very favorable". The first "person or group"? Jews.

Seriously. I started three surveys in four hours. Two people hung up when I asked that question, and one person said 100 in a voice that I'm pretty sure really meant "Of course I love them, you racist asshole".

It was pretty fun -.-

Not much is new, finally done with my crazy busy schedule. Now it's just work and photoshoots, which is good..

Entered my stuff in the fair today, or at least most of it, a couple things are due Monday. Always takes a little stress off to know they are safe and sound with the judges.

Called in to work at 11 to ask if they needed me at 2, they said call back at noon, I did, they said yes we need everyone! I rush to get all my entries in before 2, go to work, and there are about 30 people there. I ask if they still wanted me to work, and they are like "Oh, no.. you can have the day off". I didn't WANT the day off after I rushed around to GET THERE. Ugh.

I have a ridiculous amount of leftover cookies to enjoy this weekend though. Mmm.......

Was supposed to have a photo shoot today but between the construction going on in the park and the face it was raining slightly, we decided another day might be more productive. I always feel bad canceling a shoot but she seemed to lean more towards that than attempting it today and possibly having to stop due to rain.

My paycheck was a bit bigger than expected, which when your waiting an extra week for your food stamps and an extra two weeks for your partial unemployment... is really nice.

Did my self-portrait shoot for my color project. Went quite well. It is surprisingly tiring to do self portraits full force. I do my 365 thing, sure, but changing outfits and moving props and so forth while making sure the camera settings are just right and all that.. bah.

New bed = so comfortable

What a weekend. Went to a dairy-free ice cream "celebration". It was a bit weak, consisting of three tents. However, I did get free ice-cream, coupons and entered a raffle for a years supply. So I can't complain. How often does one get to go to a free food event that is vegan friendly??

Made some cookies, learned never to trust random salad creations at Sundance (cabbage and carrots should NEVER taste like artificial orange... ever.), watched Sleep Hollow again, wandered through the South Eugene parking lot, walked on creepy dark side streets, played Lord of the Rings monopoly...

Also went to Bikers for Christ with Hilary because she was preforming there with the band from her church. Haha, interesting to say the least.

Did some laundry at my parents house today. Debating going on a park adventure, not sure if I can make it without melting.

Had my first photo shoot with a model I hadn't met before. It went pretty well. It was an odd situation because she was 17 and brought a friend who was also a model and also 17. I felt like we were at one of those points where we just couldn't quite see each other as part of a professional meet up, there wasn't enough experience in either of us, we were close in age. She was fun though and had some good ideas, we were both kind of quiet. The photos turned out quite well though, and the shoot helped raise my confidence level. This is pretty much the first time I've edited photos of people with any sort of commitment. I don't generally fix skin blemishes or any of that for personal photos. I knew how, I just didn't. So it was good to put my photoshop skills to use and realize I was capable. I'm quite happy with the way they are turning out.

Went to the river on Sunday with Hilary and friends. It was a lot of fun. I don't get out much in that summer play in the water kind of way, not liking car trips and not swimming. But it was well worth the car trip and the very slight risk of me drowning :)

That's about it as far as news lately. I need to change my LJ icon, Swine Flu is no longer much of a topic...

hey ppl-

Went on a very entertaining adventure with Zech and our neighbors the other night. Free pool at Horsehead, Pita Pit, hanging out.

"The physical properties of this game... allude me..." Robert playing pool

Had coffee with Zech and friends yesterday, followed by The Graduate at David Minor with Hilary. I actually hadn't seen the movie before, quite glad I did however.

Been super active this week, but haven't worked a minute. Not bad, not bad at all.

well, bye for now-:-D

Famous Deaths, RIP [Jun. 25th, 2009|07:43 pm]
hey ppl-

The news spread like wildfire at my work.
It was ridiculous, and continues to be.
Although I admit the man was a bit creepy in recent years, I feel bad for all the bad things I hear people say upon his death.
He is still a pop legend.

And because she seems to have been forgotten in the Jackson mass media attention...

well, bye for now-:-D
